Providing small school settings to prepare traditionally underserved students for college

The College Board Schools model, is designed to help middle school and high school students in underrepresented groups enter the pipeline to higher education. There are 19 current, alumni, and affiliate College Board Schools—12 in New York City, two in Buffalo, 3 three in Rochester, one in Baltimore, and one in Yonkers.

College Board Schools are new public schools which serve students in low-income and traditionally underserved areas.

The goal of these schools is to prepare all students to enroll and succeed in college.

Teaching and learning

College Board Schools use the College Board College Readiness Systems to drive academic rigor. This series of programs and services includes SpringBoard® (in reading and mathematics), CollegeEd®, and MyRoad™. Students are encouraged to take Advanced Placement Program® courses and exams, along with thePSAT/NMSQT® and SAT® assessments.

Teachers and staff participate in extensive professional learning that includes instruction in College Board programs, all-school retreats, coaching sessions, follow-up visits on-site, and advisory.

College Board Schools are vision-driven learning organizations where the expectation is that all students will achieve academic success throughout their seven years in a College Board School, and all students will be prepared for college.
